Greenland is one of the world’s last truly wild frontiers. At Two River Valley, helicopter access drops you into a pristine Arctic landscape where rivers run gin-clear over ancient bedrock, and Arctic char — unspoiled by fishing pressure — respond to flies with pure aggression. This is fly fishing at the absolute edge of civilisation.

THE DESTINATION — TWO RIVER VALLEY

Two River Valley is situated deep in the Greenlandic interior, accessible only by helicopter from the coastal town of Kangerlussuaq. The camp sits at the confluence of two rivers that drain some of the most remote and pristine Arctic terrain on earth. The operation is run by Solid Adventures, who have pioneered guided fishing in Greenland for over two decades.

THE TARGET SPECIES — ARCTIC CHAR & BROWN TROUT

• Arctic Char — chrome silver with vivid red bellies during the summer spawning period. Aggressive to both dry flies and nymphs. Fish averaging 3–6 lbs are common, with trophy fish to 10 lbs+.
• Brown Trout — a secondary but significant species in some stretches. NZ-calibre in terms of selectivity and wariness.

THE FISHING — HOW IT WORKS

Fishing is primarily done on foot — walking and wading the river system, covering water with guides who have spent years learning every productive run and pool. The char are predominantly caught on dry flies and emergers during the summer, though nymphs and small streamers produce throughout the season.

• Primary technique: Dry fly and nymph fishing to visible fish
• Secondary technique: Small streamer fishing for aggressive char in faster water
• Rod recommendation: 9-foot 5-weight for char; 9-foot 6-weight for a more versatile setup

From Australia, the journey to Two River Valley runs via Copenhagen or Reykjavik to Kangerlussuaq (Greenland’s main airport), then by helicopter to camp. Total travel time from Australia is typically 36–48 hours. The journey is part of the adventure — Greenland is genuinely remote.
