Introducing the
Big Six Africa
Something extraordinary is on the horizon for serious Australian anglers. We’ve been working quietly on this for a long time — and we’re finally ready to announce it. The Big Six Africa expedition is coming, and it’s unlike anything we’ve offered before.
Why We Built This
At Worldwide Angler, we don’t add destinations for the sake of it. Every trip we feature has been personally tested, verified in the field, and selected because it genuinely represents the best of what that region has to offer. That principle has guided every decision we’ve made since day one — and it’s the same principle behind the Big Six Africa.
Southern Africa has been on our radar for years. The region holds some of the most extraordinary freshwater and saltwater fishing on the planet — tigerfish in the Okavango Delta, marlin off the Mozambique coastline, giant trevally in waters that see almost no fishing pressure. But the logistics of doing this properly, across six nations, with the infrastructure to match the ambition — that took time to get right.
That time has come. In partnership with JP Scholtz of Chobe4x4 — a man with over two decades of hands-on fishing and overland experience across all six nations in the route — we’re announcing the Big Six Africa expedition for the 2026/2027 season.
This expedition is everything I wished existed when I first started exploring Southern Africa. A serious fishing journey, done properly, with no corners cut.
— JP Scholtz, Founder, Chobe4x4 & Big Six Fishing AdventuresWhat is the Big Six?
The Big Six Africa is a 32-day, fully inclusive, founder-led fishing and overland expedition through six Southern African nations — Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Mozambique. It targets both legendary freshwater species and world-class saltwater game fish across a single, seamlessly connected journey.
You’ll start in Botswana’s Chobe District, fishing the iconic Okavango Delta floodplains for tigerfish before heading overland through Namibia’s Caprivi Strip, deep into Zambia’s remote Kafue and West Lunga National Parks, to Zimbabwe’s Zambezi gorges below Victoria Falls, south to South Africa’s Wild Coast, and finally into Mozambique’s Indian Ocean for the expedition’s spectacular finale.
THE ROUTE — 32 DAYS, 6 NATIONS
The Target Species — Freshwater to the Deep Blue
What makes the Big Six unique among any fishing expedition available to Australian anglers is the sheer breadth of species across a single connected journey. You’re not choosing between a freshwater trip and a saltwater trip — you’re doing both, in consecutive chapters, across six distinct fishing environments.
The Chobe4x4 Partnership — Why It Matters
We’ve said from the beginning at Worldwide Angler that we only partner with operators we’d trust with our own trip. JP Scholtz and the Chobe4x4 operation represent exactly that standard.
Chobe4x4 is a Botswana-based expedition company built around Land Cruiser V6 ’79 Series vehicles — purpose-built for extended cross-border travel across the SADC region. Every vehicle is equipped with roof racks, refrigeration, communication systems, and full recovery gear. In-house mechanical support through NGU Engineering means zero reliance on third parties when you’re deep in Zambia’s national parks.
What sets this partnership apart from any comparable offering is that JP personally leads every single expedition. He is not an operator who delegates — this is his vision, his route, his contacts, his two decades of on-the-ground knowledge. Australian guests are travelling with the man who built this from scratch.
📄 Worldwide Angler charges 0% commission on this expedition. As with every destination we feature, our role is to connect Australian anglers directly with the operator. You pay exactly what the expedition costs — no markups, no booking fees, no hidden charges from our end.
More Than Fishing — An African Wilderness Experience
We want to be clear about something: the Big Six Africa is not a fishing-only trip in the conventional sense. The overland journey between fishing destinations places guests in direct, unfiltered contact with some of Africa’s most extraordinary wildlife corridors.
Elephant breeding herds crossing the road in Chobe. Lion prides and leopard in Kafue’s remote interior. The raw thunder of Victoria Falls from the Zambezi gorge. The warm clarity of the Indian Ocean off Mozambique’s untouched coastline. These are not incidental moments on the way to the next fishing spot — they are an equal part of what this expedition delivers.
This is Southern Africa the way serious travellers have always wanted to experience it: from the seat of a capable expedition vehicle, with a fly rod in hand and a premium lodge waiting at the end of each day.
Who This Is For
The Big Six Africa is designed specifically for serious Australian anglers who have done the accessible destinations and are ready for something genuinely extraordinary. This is not a beginner’s trip or a casual adventure. It’s a 32-day commitment to one of the most diverse and demanding fishing itineraries available anywhere in the world.
That said, the infrastructure around this expedition — the Chobe4x4 vehicles, JP’s operational experience, premium lodge stays each night, 24-hour in-country support — means the logistics are handled to a level that allows guests to focus entirely on the fishing and the experience. You don’t need to be an expedition specialist. You need to be a serious angler who demands the extraordinary.
When you travel with Big Six Fishing Adventures, you are in the hands of someone who has fished every body of water on this route, navigated every border crossing, and personally selected every lodge and fishing location.
— JP Scholtz, Chobe4x4When & How to Register
The Big Six Africa is currently in its coming soon phase for the 2026/2027 season. Specific dates, complete pricing, and group sizes will be released to registered interests first — before any public announcement.
Registration is open now through Worldwide Angler. We respond to every registration personally within 48 hours, and early registrants will receive the full expedition prospectus — including the detailed day-by-day itinerary, lodge selections, species breakdown, and complete pricing — as soon as it’s available.
If you’re serious about being on one of the first expeditions, register now. We expect these to fill quickly once dates are released.
🛡️ Travel insurance is essential for this expedition. Six countries, remote locations, and extended overland travel requires proper medical evacuation cover. We recommend Global Rescue — the same specialist expedition cover we recommend for all Worldwide Angler international trips.
