Tonic Eyewear

By creating a lens that incorporates four colours, and coating the inside of the lens with an anti-reflective film, the wearer will enjoy true eye protection without losing any colour perception. A decentered lens allows the wearer to see straight ahead, up and down and also peripherally, without experiencing any optical distortion.

Every pair of Tonic eyewear sunglasses comes attractively packaged and is backed by a 12 month new for old warranty.

All tonic eyewear frames – a choice of shiny black or tortoiseshell – are made to withstand the harsh Australian conditions and are lightweight and durable.

In addition the new Tonic eyewear glass lenses are a lighter weight and come in a choice of grey or photochromic (darkens automatically according to light conditions) and copper. There is also a polycarbonate lens version in grey or copper.

TONIC – See What You’re Missing..

The Best Polarized glasses For Spotting Fish

Many clients ask me which are the best polarized sunglasses for spotting fish.
A mistake is to think that all polarizing sunglasses are the same! This is wrong as they are not all the same.

Polarized glasses are designed to remove glare from the surface of the water allowing you to see deep into the water column down to the bottom and that is where you are most likely to spot your quarry. Fish on the surface are easier to spot as they often give themselves up by disturbing the surface but those just below are a little harder to spot and this is where my Tonics come into play.

Some manufacturers use cheap adhesive film which can provided some reduction in glare but not at all angles (try tilting your head next time you look into the water) this also results  in distorted views.

Tonic polarized sunglasses, use their own patented technique that  incorporates their films within the lenses giving 100% polarization as well as 100% UV blockage (very important for eye safety) with no distortion.

I have traveled to many places around Australia and the world and I am always surprised to see how little some anglers spend on their choice of polarized sunglasses while they spend thousands on other gear and travel they skimp on eye wear. Remember the best most expensive fishing tackle will not catch more fish if you DON’T SEE WHAT YOU ARE MISSING.

Think about the places we fish be it fresh or saltwater we rely on being able to spot fish. Whether they are Trout feeding on the bottom, cruising lake edges or sipping on the top or flats fishing for Bonefish even spotting Marlin while game fishing.

Whats the best color lens is another question I get asked.

There are 2 kinds of materials used in lenses for polarized sunglasses they are glass and polycarbonate these are the only ones I think are suitable for a serious angler.

Glass lenses are by far the superior lens Tonic is the only fishing sunglass using Crystalite Glass the clearest glass lens currently available.

Polycarbonate lenses  Tonic Eyewear’s Copper or Grey Polycarbonate Lens. The grey glass has three colours integrated into the lens: grey, green and aqua. Where most grey lenses tend to flatten colour out, the Tonic grey lens defines colour. That is a big difference between Tonic and any other grey lens on the market. Just like all the Tonic lenses, the clarity is unbeatable.

Photochromic Copper Glass Lens

The photochromic copper lens is a high contrast copper bronze. This lens is photochromic so it darkens or lightens depending on ambient light conditions. This lens has been developed to give the highest quality optics in freshwater and salt water conditions. The Photo Copper can be comfortably worn all day in all light conditions..

Grey Glass Lens

The grey glass has three colours integrated into the lens: grey, green and aqua. Where most grey lenses tend to flatten colour out, the Tonic grey lens defines colour. That is a big difference between Tonic and any other grey lens on the market. Just like all the Tonic lenses, the clarity is unbeatable.

Light Copper Glass Lens – The Neon

The Neon lens is the lightest fishing lens on the market in Australia today. It brightens things up like a neon light. It picks up the reds, blues, greens and yellows and has a very broad light spectrum which allows you to see very early in the morning or late in the evening

Blue Mirror Glass Lens

The Blue Mirror lens is a high definition glare reducing colour enhancing lens. Amber tints in the lens deliver high contrast in low light conditions and a very high result when fishing. The Blue Mirror itself has been applied inside the lens and so cannot be scratched off.

Polarized lenses come in a range of colours for  different light and fishing conditions.

When choosing a lens colour, think about the where you’ll be fishing and what the light will be like.

My preference and go to lens is the Neon with the Shimmer frames as I find they cover just about all the locations I have fished especially in low light conditions.

SAFETY

Of course spotting fish is right up there when it comes to choosing polarized sunglasses but the other equally important factor is safety. When you consider that whilst fishing we have very sharp hooks flying around us it’s easy to end up with a very painful and life changing event if you end up with hooks in your eyes.

The other thing that you should consider and I think this is as equally important as the previous reasons we need polarized sunglasses is the actual damage done to our eyes from the harmful UV rays from the sun. If you are going to be out in the elements for short or long periods of time out on or around water our eye have absolutely no protection from UVA or UVB rays without the protection of Polarized sunglasses.

Tonic polarized sunglasses, use their own patented technique that  incorporates their films within the lenses giving 100% polarization as well as 100% UV blockage with no distortion.

Finding the Right Fit Tonic Eyewear’s Frames:

I always like to make sure the frames I choose don’t slip down my nose, are too tight around my ears or that there is light coming in from the top sides or bottom of the frame. I like wrap around style like the Shimmer as it gives to very little light entering from any direction. Frames must be comfortable as you will be wearing them for up to 10 hours a day.

All Tonic Eyewear frames are made from TR90 optical grade material. They are all tough and lightweight. The frames are designed to be comfortable and optimise block out of sunlight. Any non TR90 components are nickel or stainless steel to prevent rusting. Currently the range features high gloss black, matt black and high gloss tortoise shell designs.
